The ATM Industry Association, otherwise known as the ATMIA, is a non-profit trade organization with members located in 60 countries, worldwide. Members represent the entire ATM industry comprised of over 2.1 million ATMs around the globe. ATMIA chapters are located in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
The Association’s primary stated purpose is to protect the ATM industry from criminal activity and has addressed this issue by spearheading a number of main projects. These projects include a worldwide communications network, best-practice manuals for ATM security, and the creation of an online criminal database management and fraud alert system named Cognito. ATMIA also has a fledgling training section devoted to training members in ATM management in an online environment. It is also working to create an industry wide certified training program and an online forum for discussions on international payments, best practices, and alternative electronic banking channels.
The Association’s membership is broken down largely into four primary industry categories: manufacturers (comprising 26 percent of members), ATM owners (24 percent), service providers (14 percent), and network processors (13 percent). The remaining industries represented in smaller numbers include cash management, security, card issuers, software provisions, and other sectors.
Nationwide Automated Systems is a major provider of ATMs in North America, operating over 20,000 machines. The company oversees the management of all of its ATMs and dispatches a representative from one of its network of 80 service centers to address any transactional disruptions. The organization is a top-rated business, recognized by the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating.
